Cavity treatment, also known as dental restoration, begins with the application of local anesthesia to ensure that the preparation phase – drilling – is completely painless.
The preparation itself involves removing the decayed part of the tooth or an old, unsuitable filling, followed by the elimination of all carious tissue.
The quality of the preparation is verified using a caries detector, a special dye that stains only decayed tissue. This ensures that all affected areas have been thoroughly removed.
The procedure is then completed by placing a photocomposite, amalgam, or glass ionomer filling.
